Chocolate Break

A drama that deals with the themes of witnessing to work colleagues, what it means to be a Christian and the strange perceptions people can have of Christianity and the Church in general.

This drama is based in the canteen of a chocolate factory. We see Gary and Sharon enjoying their packed lunches. They chat and Sharon mentions a works trip that is taking place on Sunday night. Gary is a Christian and so Sharon assumes that he won’t be able to go as it is on a Sunday night. Gary says he probably will go on the trip, as he won’t “get in trouble” for not going, as she thinks.

We see that Gary is a nice guy and a good Christian, he does not fit Sharon’s “wacky” idea of what a Christian is. Gary wonders where Sharon might have got this perspective from?

Then enters Fiona who is an extremely “religious” church goer. Fiona has been working with Sharon recently and trying to teach her hymns to sing, so Gary begins to understand where some of Sharon’s warped insights might have come from.

The stage should have a simple table and three chairs set up. The drama is written for 2 women and one man. Three simple packed lunches are needed.

Ideally each person should be dressed in “chef’s whites” with white cardboard chip shop chef hats or white lab coats, and girls should have hair nets on or have their hair tied back. This gives the effect of working in the factory.
