The Banquet

An allegorical drama set in a newspaper office that deals with the excitement of becoming a Christian and how we can so easily take our faith for granted, and lose some of our joy as we pursue our spiritual walk.

This drama is set on a Monday morning in a newspaper office where we see Linda and Cheryl working. Cheryl receives a letter, which we find out is a special invitation to a banquet at the Savoy hotel in London. Cheryl is overjoyed and Linda joins in her excitement. Linda talks about how brilliant the banquet is, how your name is read out from a big leather bound book as you enter, and how being a part of the Association can affect your whole life.

Then in comes the character of Neil, he also works in the office. He has been part of the association for a long time and is a lot more sceptical about the whole thing. He thinks the leaders could learn a thing or two from him!

Needless to say, The Association represents the Church and Christianity. We see a “new converts” excitement through the character of Cheryl and through Neil we see someone who came to faith a while ago but decides to “go it alone” and we see the consequences to someone’s character that this can bring.

This sketch requires 2 women and one man.
